Meet Your Instructor: Jennifer Gatero
Jennifer Gatero began telling stories long before she ever called herself a filmmaker. In high school, while most teens were navigating adolescence, Jennifer was already writing Better Days, a television series that aired on Kenya Television Network (KTN).
She went on to study Television and Broadcast Journalism at the prestigious Mohammed Amin Foundation, and later worked as a journalist at K24. But while she respected journalism, something deeper kept calling her back: the power of fiction, of drama, of creating worlds where people could see themselves, feel something, and maybe even heal a little.
That calling led her to produce the award-winning TV series Changing Times, which ran for three years and became a household favorite in Kenya. She didn’t stop there. Jennifer wrote, directed, and produced impactful documentaries and infomercials for international organizations like AMREF, PSI, and the British Council, using story as a tool for advocacy and social change.
Her work has since garnered over twenty international awards, and in a proud career milestone, The New York Times named her film Nairobby as one of the best films to watch on Netflix.
Now, she’s opening her notebooks, her experience, and her heart to teach everything she’s learned about writing. This isn’t just another masterclass. There’s no gatekeeping here. Whether you're just starting your writing journey or looking to sharpen your skills and finally finish that script, Jennifer’s here to help you unlock your voice and tell your story in your own way.
. If you’ve ever felt like the world needs your story ; this is your sign to write it.
